Every year, thousands of Central Coast students experience live performances through the School Matinee Program. Thanks to the support of donors like you, each of the students who attend performances at our beloved Performing Arts Center do so for free.
Presented by the Harold J. Miossi Trust, the School Matinee Program is creating the artists and arts lovers of tomorrow.
A study recently conducted by Purdue University found that live theater can enhance student learning, increase the retention of information and boost levels of empathy. Students benefit from the capacity that theatre has to “bring individuals together to experience a shared event, a story; to make meaning together in the present moment, engaging body, mind and spirit in community”.
Students engage with world-class performing and teaching artists at the PAC, who present content connected to a variety of curriculum standards. Local teachers tell us how the School Matinee Program enhances classroom learning: “the live performance took the script off the pages of the textbook and brought it to life. The artistic expression was excellent and the students will be hard pressed to forget the content”.
Demand for the School Matinee Program always outweighs the number of students we are able to serve. Teachers from throughout the Central Coast tell us that there are many more students that they would bring to performances if the opportunity was available.
Today, you can help us ensure that local students have access to important arts and culture experiences. With your donation today, you can help us bring more students to the PAC than ever before.
